Rad Reviews: Memory Tapes - Grace/Confusion
This is modern electronic music. People call it chillwave, but it brings back sounds from the early to mid-90's as bands like Washed Out, Onuinu, and the Memory Tapes venture into the fuzzy low-fi soundscapes of past decades. The light echo'ed vocals outshine the drum machine bass line with a string section making "Neighborhood Watch" a dreamy textured gem. The first single "Sheila" (released way back in April of 2012) sounds eerily like Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti with a harder dancier bass line.
The album doesn't add much to the electronic music canon, but it's an enjoyable listen.
