Rad Reviews: Mitzi - Truly Alive

We got this single at WMBR a few months back called "Who Will Love You Now" by Mitzi.  It harkened back to some DFA classics.  This Future Classic release has the funk and disco of Hercules and Love Affair combined with the dance-punk stylings of LCD Soundsystem.

The driving bassline of "Can't Change Her" changes the overall dance-driven mood, and pushes more into a Tough Alliance, Shine 2009, early nineties-influenced dance groove.

"Like It Was" reminds me of a cross between Empire of the Sun and Friendly Fires with the echo effect on vocals which is all too similar for a great many bands these days.  While the track isn't the best on the album, it's a nice break from the dance beat found throughout.

Picking it back up a notch with "All I Heard" seems like it picks up where The 2 Bears left off last year with "Be Strong".  While the title track, "Truly Alive", could be ripped directly from any DFA release of the past two years except add in a laser fired synthesizer track.

Overall, "Truly Alive" is a solid album.  Providing some great dance bangers, excellent basslines, and a solid beat.  Give it a go.

Rating: 8.5/10
